The long-anticipated opening of William Hawrelak Park will happen March 13. The city announced the near completion of the river valley park’s three-year rehabilitation project in a Thursday media release, adding that localized work may still be going on in March to address “deficiencies, commissioning and warranty-related activities.” Visitors will, however, be able to make use of the park’s new playground, lakefront promenade, pavilion and updated washrooms. A new perimeter path and trails in the area are also fully paved and open. The City of Edmonton began its $134.6 million-project in March 2023 to address the park’s aging infrastructure. The grand re-opening of Hawrelak Park is set for May 30. Festival, event and picnic bookings will become available by June 1.
