Free COVID-19 boosters available April 7 to eligible Alberta residents

The province says eligible Alberta residents can get free COVID-19 shots at pharmacies and Primary Care Alberta health clinics starting Tuesday.

Eligible Alberta residents can access COVID-19 vaccines for free starting next week.

The provincial government said Thursday in a media release that select people can get COVID-19 boosters at no cost to them starting Tuesday at participating pharmacies and Primary Care Alberta health clinics.

People eligible for free vaccine include:

• adults aged 80 and older;
• residents of long-term care homes and other congregate living settings for seniors;
• people aged six months and older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised due to an underlying condition or treatment; and
• adults 65 to 79 years of age with underlying medical conditions that place them at higher risk of severe COVID-19.

Appointments for children under age 12 can be made through Primary Care Alberta public health clinics online or by calling Health Link at 811.

Those aged 12 and older can book appointments through pharmacies, with some offering walk-in service.
