Police are investigating a fire that began early Monday morning at a west-central property the city had slated for small-scale residential development. Edmonton Fire Rescue Services responded to a fire at the corner of 147 Street and 88 Avenue around 4:15 a.m. The fire was declared fully out just after 9 a.m. There were no injuries. A city information officer says the building in question was set for demolition, meaning there were no utilities connected to the property. Edmonton police were called to investigate. The property is zoned as small-scale residential, according to city data. This allows for developments up to three storeys high, including detached, attached and multi-unit residential housing. A resident in the area who did not want to appear on camera confirmed the neighbourhood was the site of an infill-related protest the day prior.
