Edmonton police are warning residents of the upcoming release of a convicted child sex offender, saying they have reasonable grounds to believe he may reoffend. Alfred David White, 39, was arrested and convicted of sexual offences against children in Calgary in 2020. He was given a two-year sentence. While on interim release, he was convicted again in 2021 for offences involving possession of child sexual abuse materials and got another 15-month sentence. White reoffended in 2022 after his statutory release, again for accessing and uploading child sexual abuse materials and breaching a prohibition order, police said. He was sentenced to 27 months in prison. Edmonton Police Service (EPS) issued a notice of his release on Thursday as White will be living in Edmonton and has been given a number of court conditions given what the service says is his “high risk of reoffending.” The EPS Behavioural Assessment Unit will be monitoring and managing White’s compliance with those conditions. “The Edmonton Police Service is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in public interest to inform members of the community,” read the release.
