The music reached a fevered pitch at the last of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra’s Outdoors concert series over the weekend. The series brought live music to Devon, Fort Saskatchewan, Beaumont and Stony Plain. “A lot of the world is moving in a direction that’s less human and less (about) bringing people together in person, and we’re doing the exact opposite, where it’s live music, musicians in the community sharing an experience together and coming together for music,” said Alex Draper with the Winspear. “It’s one of the best ways to bring people together, to have a shared experience, to express what it means to be human, and to do it in a way that’s unique and special to that time,” A concert at Station Lands in Edmonton scheduled for Saturday was cancelled after determining “conditions at the outdoor site would significantly compromise the acoustic experience and prevent us from delivering the quality of concert our audiences and musicians deserve,” according to the Winspear Centre. While the Outdoors concert series is over, it will blend harmoniously with the upcoming Symphony Under the Sky festival. A crescendo will rise from Hawrelak Park from Sept. 3-7 as attendees will be able to see performances of Hollywood at Hawrelak or Beethoven’s Fifth. Tickets are available online.
