Edmonton homes with curbside collection are getting two yard waste collection days between Monday and June 15. All pickups are scheduled on a Monday. On your collection day, the city asks that you set your waste out in see-through plastic or double-ply paper bags. There is no limit on the number of bags or bundles that can be set out, but each bag needs to be light enough to lift with one arm. Lingering snow might make gathering yard waste tricky; if your collection date falls early on in the schedule, the city recommends saving yard waste for the second collection period between May 25 and June 15. Residents can also drop yard waste off for free at Eco Stations or the Edmonton Waste Management Centre, or add it to food scraps carts with the lids fully closed to prevent anything spilling out. None of the collection rules apply to elm tree yard waste, which can only be pruned from October to March under a city ban aiming to prevent the spread of Dutch elm disease. Elm wood cannot be combined with food scraps, yard waste or other collected waste and needs to be disposed of at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre. A list of acceptable yard waste can be found on the City of Edmonton website. Food scraps and garbage collection Food scraps carts switch to weekly collection schedules on April 28 to reduce smells and ensure more space for any seasonal yard waste. Garbage collection stays on a biweekly schedule, recycling on a weekly schedule. Spring waste collection schedules run until November. All waste collection schedules can be found on the WasteWise app or by visiting the city’s website. A calendar can also be printed at a local Edmonton Public Library branch for a fee or requested for mail delivery by calling 311.
