Last weekend, Edmonton won the U16A ringette provincial championship in Airdrie for the first time in 38 years, securing a spot in the Western Canadian Ringette Championships. Forward Makenna Bennett said winning provincials is a once in a lifetime experience. “With this team, it just means so much to me,” said Bennett. “We have worked so hard to be here and to continue such an amazing season while representing Alberta, it’s just amazing.” Centre forward Paige Taylor echoed Bennett’s sentiments. “It’s amazing to think that Edmonton hasn’t won provincials for almost 40 years, and for this team to be the one to represent, it’s an amazing experience,” said Taylor. “It feels like we’ve accomplished something significant,” said head coach Tyler Prociuk. “I’m pretty thrilled myself and I’m extra happy for these girls, they get to have this experience and be called Team Alberta.” The team will head to Saskatoon for the championship that starts March 18 with opening ceremonies and a skills competition.
