The Edmonton Public School Board (EPSB) has cancelled all international trips and school-based exchanges for the 2026-27 school year, according to a division spokesperson. Four previously approved upcoming trips have therefore been cancelled to account for what the board says is a “complex global landscape of evolving political, economic and public health challenges.” “After examining a variety of factors, this decision was made out of an abundance of caution to avoid unnecessary risk and support the safety of everyone in school communities,” wrote EPSB communications consultant Kim Smith. “We know students and families will be disappointed. These trips can be the highlight of a student’s school year. Making this decision now allows schools and families to adjust their plans and explore other opportunities, especially those within Canada.” The board plans to re-assess the decision in the 2027-28 school year.
