The Edmonton Public Library (EPL) announced Olivia Street as its newest Musician in Residence (MIR) – a program which supports local artists through free mentorship and workshops. Street is a songwriter, performer and educator based in Edmonton. Under the moniker King of Foxes, she has released four albums which have earned her a Rock Artist of the Year nomination at the 2022 Western Canadian Music Awards, and recognition as one of the top three winners of the 2023 Edmonton Music Prize. She also teaches courses at MacEwan University in both the Department of Music and Arts and Cultural Management, where she directs the TD Music Artist in Residence Program. “Programs like EPL’s MIR give artists the time and space to deepen their craft and connect with their community in meaningful ways,” Kami Van Halst, interim executive director with Alberta Music, said in a news release on Tuesday. “We’re thrilled to see Olivia bring her creativity and heart to this year’s residency.” Working out of the Stanley A. Milner Library in downtown Edmonton, Street will provide free mentorship, one-on-one sessions and workshops for artists looking to learn and grow. EPL will also host events at various library branches, which will cover topics from songwriting to tips about navigating the music industry. “Olivia’s passion for creating opportunities through music – on a festival stage or in the classroom – perfectly embodies the spirit of this program,” CEO of EPL Pilar Martinez said in a statement. Street is the third MIR with EPL. Biboye Onanuga last served in the role in 2024 to 2025, following Mallory Chipman in 2023 to 2024.
