An Edmonton man has one million reasons to celebrate after a big jackpot win. Kamran Eskandari won $1 million in the Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Draw from Oct. 1 after purchasing the ticket at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Jasper Avenue in downtown Edmonton. He said was surprised by the lottery win, and has been playing since the ‘90s. “The cashier said she would check it for me and at first we both thought I’d won $100,000,” Eskandari said in a statement on Thursday. “When I realized how much it was, my heart was beating so fast.” He said his sister was the first person he called to share the good news. Eskandari plans to use the money to pay off his mortgage and line of credit, and he will focus on investing the rest of the windfall. “I’m very thankful and grateful,” he said. “It’s a good feeling.” Along with the million-dollar prize, the Western Canada Lottery Corporation said Eskandari also won a Free Play and a $2-prize on the EXTRA for the same draw making his total winnings $1,000,002 plus a free ticket for another draw.
