The City of Edmonton is offering transit riders a helping hand for the back-to-school season. Until Sept. 18, the city will be increasing safety patrols in high-traffic Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) hubs in order to help new and returning users ride with confidence. The increased patrols are part of the Here to Help campaign, which takes place each year as students return to school. The city expects about 70,000 students to use ETS this month. To support them, uniformed officers will patrol 10 key ETS sites during peak hours. “People are the heart of Edmonton’s transit system,” Mayor Andrew Knack said. “Whether they are routine riders or first time commuters, the city is dedicated to supporting Edmontonians to get to the places they need to be.” Peace officers, ETS staff and Edmonton police will also be visiting post-secondary campuses and other public spaces to answer questions about bylaws, fares, safety concerns and incident reports.
