Advance voting days have come and gone, and at first glance, it looks like the numbers are down from 2021. On average, though, Edmontonians were showing up to the polls far more daily than in 2021 despite half the available voting days. This year, polls were only open from Oct. 7 to Oct. 11. Over five days, 41,340 Edmontonians showed up to vote early. That’s an average of 8,268 voters per day – and turnout numbers rose consistently each day, peaking at 10,698 on day five. In 2021, advance poll stations for the city’s municipal election were open from Oct. 4 to Oct. 13 and saw 63,834 total voters over 10 days. That’s an average of around 6,383 voters per day – although stations saw the lowest turnout around day seven and the highest on the last day. Edmonton’s last municipal election saw an overall voter turnout of 37.6 per cent, with just over 230,000 out of 629,006 eligible voters casting a vote. Calgary numbers Even though Calgary’s advance numbers were down, their turnout was still double Edmonton’s in the six days they had polls open. Granted, Calgary has a population of around 1.6 million compared to Edmonton’s 1.2. Calgary saw over 96,000 voters at the advance polls. In 2021, that number was 141,329. Official count numbers for Edmonton’s 2025 election are required by noon on Oct. 24, according to the Edmonton Elections results page.
