The Edmonton Corn Maze is open for the season after a weather-related delay. “The rain has slowed things down a lot in June, July, and then we had a hailstorm run through a few weeks ago too, which set it back a little bit further,” owner Jesse Kraay told CTV News Edmonton on Wednesday. “So it’s not our best corn crop ever, but it is growing through, and it still makes a maze. It might not be quite as tall and dense as some years, but it is still growing.” Kraay says the corn was planted in May and the maze design was cut in June. While opening day came three weeks later than expected, Kraay says it was worth the wait. “It’s good to have laughing and smiling people running around,” he said. “That’s the best part about this when you hear people laughing and having fun and enjoying being outside, and just having lots of fun.” He says the property has fairly good drainage, but you might want to come prepared if you’re planning to come after a rainstorm. “If it’s rained within a day or two, you might want to bring rubber boots. It’ll dry up fairly quick here, but either check call ahead if you’re worried,” he said, “Hopefully the rain’s done and we can have nice dry trails.” The maze is cut into a different theme every year. “This year we’re working with AMA. We’re celebrating 100 years, so we have their logo cut in there and we’ve got some trivia out there,” Kraay said.
