A broad band of steadier snow has been falling north of the Edmonton area through the early morning hours, but, that band will drop south through the day and we’ll get some occasional periods of light snow in and around the city, especially this morning and early this afternoon. We’re not anticipating much more than 1 to 3 centimetres of accumulation in Edmonton, but the wind will likely pick up a bit. So...blowing snow could be an issue through the morning hours. Snow will move out of the Edmonton area by mid to late this afternoon. Snowfall warnings remain in effect for areas north and west of Edmonton, but the heaviest snow is almost done for most of those areas and snowfall will taper off through the day. We also have a Freezing Drizzle Warning in effect for the Red Deer/Drumheller/Oyen areas. Patchy freezing drizzle is being reported in at least parts of that area this morning. There are also reports of thick fog in some spots. Conditions in that region should improve by midday. Red Deer and areas south will get another shot of snow early Thursday, but that snow will stay south of the Edmonton region. We may see a few occasional light flurries in the coming days (with not significant accumulation), but the next chance for some heavier, accumulating snow in Edmonton isn’t until Monday. Temperatures will remain well below average for the next five to seven days (possibly longer). The coldest days will be today and Thursday. Afternoon highs will be around -9 C today and tomorrow. Daytime highs climb to around the freezing mark for Friday, the weekend and early next week. Average highs for late March are in the 5 C to 7 C degree range.
