An Edmonton-based Indie choir has wrapped up rehearsals ahead of a special concert for charity on Monday night. The Vox Collective is an adult community choir that sings cover arrangements of folk, rock, alternative, pop and electronic songs. The group, which began about a year and a half ago, is a collaborative effort between 50-60 singers and guest directors from the city’s music and performance scene. Candice Bartlett, the group’s creator and main director, said Vox Collective was the result of wanting to create a space in the city that leans into “creativity versus perfection.” “I looked around at the choir scene, loved what was happening, but I wanted to create a really laid back space where people could come together in community, and it be a low pressure vibe,” she said in an interview Saturday. There are no auditions required to be a part of the collective, although a background in music or love of singing is a strong starting point, according to the group’s website. Monday’s concert, Sing Your Heart Out: The Vox Collective, will feature local artists like Mallory Chipman, The Western Thistles and Bartlett’s own group, Candice B & The Light Meter. Proceeds from the concert will go to the Edmonton Food Bank – something Bartlett said was a “given.” “They have a huge impact. They provide vital services … there’s a huge need,” she said.
