Edmonton hit 25 C on Wednesday and that’s probably the last time we’ll hit 25 C for a WHILE. Temperatures probably get back to 20 C (or the low 20s) late next week, but we’ll have afternoon highs in the teens through the next five or six days. An upper trough (cool air aloft) will dominate the weather pattern over the coming days. At the surface, a cold front brought some showers to the Edmonton region overnight and rain continues to fall along that front off to the south and east of the Edmonton area. We also have a low-pressure system bringing rain to northern Alberta through the day. Some of those showers will push south and move through central Alberta tonight and Friday. It looks like most of the Edmonton area will be dry for MOST of Thursday. There might be a few isolated (brief) showers, but most of the day should just be a mix of sun and cloud. Wind will be the bigger story as gusts in the 40-50 km/h range develop by late morning and continue through Friday. There’s a better chance for a few showers to move through the region Thursday night and Friday morning. Friday’s shaping up to be the coolest day of the week with a high of 12 or 13 C (and gusty wind). Weekend outlook: It’ll be a cloudy start to the day Saturday, but the sun should break through by midday. Sunny for most of the day Sunday, then a bit of increasing cloud late in the day. Temperatures will be close to the freezing mark Saturday and Sunday morning... although I don’t think we’ll get frost in the city.
