It’s been a week since temperatures last climbed above -10 C in Edmonton and I don’t think we’ll get to single digits in the city today. But, there IS a significant warming trend coming. We should get to the -5 C range Tuesday and afternoon temperatures will jump above 0 C Wednesday/Thursday. That’ll be followed by a couple cold days Friday/Saturday and then another warm up for early next week. We’ll also notice a big difference with morning temperatures. Six of the past seven mornings have started out in the -20s (including this morning). Edmonton probably won’t see another -20 C morning until Saturday and most of the next few mornings will be around or above -10 C. So...we’re pulling out of the deep freeze. AND...although there are a couple cold days coming to close this week, most of the long-range outlook has relatively mild temperatures through the first week of March. Precipitation outlook: A series of low-pressure systems will push across the province this week. Today’s system has a chance to drop 5-15 cm of snow across parts of northern Alberta (Peace River to Fort McMurray) and possibly 10 to 15cm for the mountain parks. There’s also the likelihood of some powerful gusts in the foothills and southern Alberta (gusts around 100 km/h) today. For central and north-central Alberta, a few flurries are possible and maybe even a few pockets of 1-3 cm of snow, but it will not have a significant impact. The next few low-pressure systems will push across northern Alberta and deliver even more snow to northern parts of the Peace Country and the Fort McMurray regions. It’s south of those systems that we’ll see the warm air pushed into the Edmonton area for Wednesday/Thursday. Morning: -12 Afternoon High: -5 Wednesday - Mostly cloudy. Morning Low: -5 Afternoon High: 3 Thursday - Cloudy with a 60% chance of rain/snow mix.
