The City of Edmonton’s elections office says it expects hand counting of ballots in the Oct. 20 vote will delay results until the next day. The Alberta government banned electronic vote tabulators last spring. Edmonton Elections says ballot counting will start at the 220 voting stations after they have closed at 8 p.m. on election day, Oct. 20. There will also be a count centre for all advanced votes, special ballots and votes from institutions such as hospitals and seniors homes. Edmonton Elections says it anticipates some preliminary results will be available on election night. Officials say they don’t expect full preliminary results until the next day.
