The city’s elections department is counting ballots from three voting substations in Monday’s municipal election it says were not initially tallied. Edmonton Elections said in media releases on Wednesday that some ballots cast at schools in three different wards have not yet been counted. They include Keehewin School in Ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi, St. Alphonsus Catholic Elementary/Junior High School in Ward Métis and George H. Luck School in Ward pihêsiwin. The races affected include those for city councillor and the two school board seats in Ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi, and for city councillor in wards Métis and pihêsiwin. Elections staff said the ballots will be counted on Wednesday afternoon starting at 2 p.m. When asked by CTV News Edmonton how the ballots were missed and how many of them there are, elections staff did not immediately provide an answer. The voting substation in question is one of 21 in the southside Ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi, in which incumbent city councillor Jennifer Rice is losing her bid for re-election to Jon Morgan by 558 votes with 20 polls reporting as of Wednesday afternoon. Rice has received 5,493 votes for 33.35 per cent of the ballots cast, while Morgan has received 6,071 for 36.74 per cent of them. Five other hopefuls sought election in the ward. In Ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi’s school board races, incumbent Lisa Turchansky has won 58.15 per cent of the votes for the Catholic board lead over one challenger while Melanie Hoffman has captured 60.89 per cent of the vote for the public seat over four other hopefuls. Of the six people running in Ward Métis, incumbent city councillor Ashley Salvador has received 10,272 votes for 48.47 per cent of the ballots cast with 24 of 25 polls reporting. The next closest challenger to her is Caroline Matthews, who has received 6,100 votes for 28.78 per cent of them. In the six-person race to replace city councillor and failed mayoral candidate Tim Cartmell in Ward pihêsiwin, Michael Elliott leads after garnering 7,597 votes for 40.72 per cent of ballots cast with 19 of 20 polls reporting. Jackie Liu is second to Elliott with 5,752 votes received for 30.83 per cent of all ballots in the southwest ward.
