The City of Edmonton is activating its extreme weather response to keep vulnerable people safe as temperatures are to reach 30 C in the coming days. The activation begins on Monday at 9 a.m. and is expected to end on Sept. 1 at the same time. During the activation, peace officers will carry water bottles to give to those in need. Recreation centres, pools and libraries will be open for anyone looking for respite from the heat. City facilities will also have free bottled water and N95 masks. There are 28 water stations attached to fire hydrants across the city, available 24 hours a day. Edmontonians who are concerned about someone outside can call 211 and press 3 for the 24/7 Crisis Diversion Team who can assist individuals who may be in distress and can provide transportation to social service agencies. In an emergency situation, call 911. An extreme heat response is activated when the forecast is expected to have daytime temperatures of 29 C or higher and lows of 14 C or higher overnight for at least three days in a row.
