An investigation is underway following the death of a Whitecourt, Alta., man after he interacted with Mounties. The 47-year-old man’s wife found him in medical distress in a room at a local hotel where he had reportedly been living shortly after midnight on Sept. 18. He died at the scene, despite life-saving efforts by emergency responders. An hour earlier, he had been brought to the room by RCMP, who had been called about an intoxicated man. Officers found him unconscious in the hallway and, with help from staff, put him inside his suite. He was alone when they left. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating, as it does any potential criminal offences involving police in the province. Whitecourt is about 180 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
