A potentially rainy Canada Day is upon Edmontonians. Here’s what’s happening around the city, weather and smoke permitting. Alberta legislature The Ismaili Council for Edmonton is bringing back its 37-year-old pancake breakfast tradition at the Alberta legislature grounds beginning at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., the legislature becomes home to hours of live entertainment for anybody on the grounds. Performances include the singing of O Canada by Edmonton Oilers anthem singer Robert Clark, as well as Calgary indie folk band Reuben and the Dark, Tempo Franco Danse and more. City of Edmonton events The 34th-annual Mill Woods Canada Day Celebration is a free day of multi-cultural performances, dance, music and fireworks. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney might even make an appearance. Ice District’s Fan Park hosts Canada Celebrates on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for FIFA World Cup match watch parties, live performances by The Barkells and a special appearance by former Canada men’s national team player Tosaint Ricketts. The City of Edmonton is inviting everyone to the city hall plaza fountain with sunscreen, a beach towel and snacks on Wednesday – again, weather permitting. Fort Edmonton Park will be celebrating “the diverse stories that shape our country.” The day includes Indigenous drumming, dancing, cultural teachings and live music among other family-friendly activities, traditional jazz and Caribbean performances, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Muttart Conservatory is rolling out its Hundred Acre Wood exhibition in time for Canada Day. Wednesday’s celebration will have attendees trying to find Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends in the forest while crafting, planting and searching for treasure in the pyramids. The Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre will be home to an open house, hosted by the Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day features military vehicles from Valour Park and galleries, obstacle courses for kids and interactive activities. Greater Edmonton Area activities In Morinville, the mayor and council will be offering cookies, inflatables, a foam party, face painting and live music at the Ray McDonalds Sports Grounds from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Broadmoor Lake Park in Strathcona County will be buzzing with all-ages activities until 11 p.m., when Northern Lights Fiber puts on an evening firework show.
