It’s a smorgasbord of events in Edmonton and area this weekend, including a number of Pride Month and National Indigenous History Month celebrations. Here’s what’s happening: Chinatown block party ft. 9-man volleyball The heart of Chinatown will fill up with live DJs, local artists, food vendors, lion dance performers and more on Saturday and Sunday for the Van (B)loc party. The event is a product of city revitalization and vibrancy projects meant to bring people back to the downtown core. It’s free to attend, family-friendly and promises to have day markets, night markets and performances to keep everyone entertained. Organizer Wilson Wong is also bringing a Chinese immigrant tradition out west with Edmonton’s first-ever nine-man volleyball exhibition. The fast-paced sport will be played on a court drawn onto the downtown streets. Locomotive No. 107 celebrates the big 107 at Fort Edmonton Park All aboard! The 1919 Baldwin Locomotive No. 107 is celebrating its birthday at Fort Edmonton Park on Saturday. The day will feature unlimited train rides, hands-on exhibits and historical demonstrations from park interpreters. Don’t forget to sign the birthday card! Rare terrier breeds strut their stuff at Hawrelak Park Who could forget World Dandie Dinmont Terrier Day? William Hawrelak park will host Mary Machum’s three Dandie Dinmont terriers. There are an estimated 3,000 of the rare Scottish breed in the world. Africanival This free multicultural festival celebrating African and Afro-Caribbean heritage will bring music, dance, art, food and community engagement to Eastwood Park Friday through Sunday. Discover new art, live music and delicious food. Heart of the City Music and Arts Festival A family-friendly cultural and live music festival lining the streets of Edmonton’s Little Italy on the way to Giovanni Caboto Park on Saturday. It’s free to attend with free food, bannock and jam. All that’s asked is that you bring your own chair, acoustic instrument (if you’d like) and voice.
