The local Big Brothers Big Sisters (BGCBigs) chapter is trying to fundraise $1 million for Edmonton and area youth. Its 46th Dream Home Lottery launched Monday. A $1.1-million bungalow, featuring three bedrooms and a triple-car garage, built by Veneto Homes in St. Albert, is the largest prize available. Alternatively, the grand prize winner could choose to take home $1 million in cash. “It just depends on what your dream is and what you would need to fulfill those dreams,” said BGCBigs spokesperson Christina Dominguez. “It’s a great place for people who want to downsize and still have room for kids in the basement. It’s a great layout for entertaining,” said Veneto Homes co-owner Adrianna Chiumento. “It’s nice to show ageing in place and being able to live your life all on one floor.” The lottery is the club’s largest fundraiser, funding all of its programs and services. “Our goal is always to raise $1 million; that’s our pie in the sky. Dreams can come true with that number, but realistically, any amount helps us because we’ve got over 4,500 children and youth that we’re providing club services to: mentoring programs, free meals, free tutoring, educational supports, youth employment opportunities,” Dominguez said. The chapter supports youth in Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove and Stony Plain. Tickets start at $30 and must be purchased by April 30 for the May 7 grand prize draw.
