As Edmonton-area realtors gather for their annual conference Wednesday, much of the conversation at the Expo Centre is focused on the balanced housing market that has emerged. Chris Hedstrom, chair-elect of the Realtors Association of Edmonton, said a balanced market gives buyers more time and flexibility when shopping for a home. “A balanced market is a little more beneficial to buyers because it gives them more choice,” Hedstrom told CTV News Edmonton. “They can take their time making a decision, as opposed to when it’s a seller’s market.” Hedstrom said a balanced real estate market typically has three to five months of inventory, while a seller’s market has less than three months. The event, known as RAECon, brings together more than 5,500 members from 30 communities across the region for professional development, networking and industry insights through keynote speakers, educational breakout sessions and a trade show. Founded in 1927, the Realtors Association of Edmonton administers the local multiple listing service (MLS), provides education and training for realtors, and enforces professional and ethical standards.
