A 42-year-old Edmonton man is facing charges in connection with a fire at a former community hub south of Edmonton earlier this year. The man is charged with arson for fraudulent purposes in connection with the fire at the Wetaskiwin Memorial Arts Centre on June 6. After the fire, community members gathered to share their memories of the 1947 building, including countless weddings and fundraisers. The city sold the building in 2024 to a daycare operator who was in the process of renovating the space. The accused will appear in court in Wetaskiwin on Tuesday.
