What was formerly known as the Alberta Party will now be the Progressive Tory Party of Alberta, according to leader Peter Guthrie. Guthrie announced the switch in an X post on Thursday evening. The MLA was sitting as an Independent in the legislative assembly after being removed from the United Conservative Party caucus. He joined the Alberta Party with the intent to rename it the Progressive Conservatives, which was met with some political concern surrounding naming rights. Elections Alberta does not have the name change reflected on its website as of Thursday night.
