Some Alberta residents who rely on Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) and Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP) still haven’t received a payment for August after the province confirmed there were technical issues on Tuesday. The opposition NDP said it has heard from many of those clients. “Starting yesterday we started to get calls and emails about AISH deposits not being made. We heard AISH was shorted, AISH was too high, so there was too much money deposited, or none at all,” NDP MLA Marie Renaud told reporters on Wednesday. “We’ve got people that will not be able to pay their rent, that will get eviction notices, that can’t buy food, that can’t pick up medication where they have copay. This is a big problem.” The province says the technical issue impacted about two percent of AISH and ADAP clients. “We know how important these benefits are to the people who depend on them, which is why we’re ensuring all payment issues are corrected in full by July 31, 2026,” Jonah Pickle, the press secretary for the ministry of assisted living and social services, said in an email to CTV News Edmonton on Wednesday. “We are working to fix the technical system error to support smooth benefit payments moving forward, and will continue to assess payments to ensure there are no further issues.” Pickle says any Albertan who is unable to meet their basic needs should call the 24-Income Support Contact Centre at 1-866-644-5135 for emergency financial assistance.
