The operator of a northern Alberta casino has been fined under the Occupational Health and Safety Act after a worker was seriously injured. Cold Lake First Nations Casino Corporation must pay $70,000 after a worker was struck and pinned by falling lockers at the Casino Dene in Cold Lake on Sept. 22, 2023. The corporation was also placed on two years of enhanced regulatory supervision, under which it will be required to complete a number of actions to improve corporate health and safety systems or knowledge. Four OHS charges were also withdrawn by the Crown. The Crown and the corporation each have 30 days to appeal the conviction or penalties.
