Two people were killed in crashes in Alberta over the Labour Day long weekend, the RCMP said on Tuesday. Mounties conducted enhanced enforcement during the long weekend, where they removed 125 impaired drivers from Alberta roads and issued a total of 1,125 traffic violations. Nearly 600 were for speeding, 24 for distracted driving and 21 for seatbelt infractions, RCMP said. There were three injury collisions and two fatal crashes. “Every road fatality is avoidable,” Sgt. Darrin Turnbull said. “Everyone should have been able to make it home safely this past weekend. If someone is about to drive impaired or make an unsafe choice behind the wheel, speak up. A simple conversation can save a life.”
