TORONTO - Two theatre moguls sentenced to prison for a scheme to cook the books at Livent are before the Appeal Court today in a bid to overturn their verdicts.

Garth Drabinsky and Myron Gottlieb were convicted in 2009 of two counts each of fraud and sentenced to seven and six years, respectively.

The judge found they manipulated the income reported on the financial statements of Livent, the company behind productions of "The Phantom of the Opera."

Gottlieb is asking the Court of Appeal for Ontario for a new trial or at least a reduced sentence.

Drabinsky is seeking an outright acquittal or either a new trial or a conditional sentence.

The pair are out on bail and has stayed out of prison since being convicted.
