VANCOUVER - The SPCA is asking the public's help in finding the owner of a dead pit bull found stuffed inside a suitcase and left behind a dumpster in Vancouver.

The female dog was discovered after someone noticed its legs sticking out of the suitcase.

SPCA official Eileen Drever says it's tragic to think someone would discard a poor animal in this way.

She says her agency is investigating how the dog died, but it appears the animal was already dead when it was put in the suitcase.

Drever says the chocolate-coloured dog was about four years old and had raw, bloody marks on her muzzle where it looked like nylon or wire was wrapped tightly around her mouth.

The dog also had existing scars on her muzzle.
