David Arquette can relate to Chaz Bono because his sibling Alexis also went through a sex change.

The 'Scream 4' actor is competing against Chaz  in the current series of 'Dancing with the Stars' and says he knows what he is going through because his sister had a similar experience.

David told RadarOnline.com: "It's really admirable of him to step out and put up with the criticism and be himself, and be comfortable with himself. It's just been great.

"I didn't know Chaz before but going on there, but with Alexis I saw how vicious people can be, and I saw what a real emotional journey it is for someone who doesn't feel comfortable in the sex that they were given as a child. So I understand how he feels, and I also see how natural it is."

David is sure Alexis - who is an actress and musician - will be watching the show but hopes she shows family loyalty when it comes to voting.

He said: "She better vote for me!"

While David is keen to do well, he wants Iraq war veteran J.R. Martinez to be crowned the champion.

He revealed: "I think J.R. is going be difficult to beat. He's an incredible person. He's going to be amazing."

'Dancing with the Stars' starts Tuesday, Sept. 19 on CTV Two
