A motorist has been charged in connection with a collision last month that left Jacksoul singer Haydain Neale in critical condition.

The Juno-award winning singer was riding a Vespa scooter southbound on Kennedy Road at Foxbridge Drive near Eglinton Avenue when he was struck by a Honda Civic that was attempting to make a left-hand turn at the intersection.

The accident occurred in early August and Neale, 36, remains in critical but stable condition in hospital.

Toronto resident Kyle Samuel, 20, has been charged with "Turn -- Not in Safety" under the Highway Traffic Act.

He will appear in Old City Hall court on Thursday, Oct. 25.

Neale fronts the band Jacksoul, which has won a 2007 Juno Award for best R&B recording, a SOCAN Award for R&B song of the year and a Canadian Urban Music Award for songwriter of the year.
