MONTREAL - Quebec Premier Jean Charest, beset by political troubles, will briefly prorogue the legislature to return with a new inaugural speech.

It's another indication of Charest's determination to hit the reset button.

This week he shuffled his cabinet, replaced his senior staff -- and now a prorogation.

Charest is promising a forward-looking inaugural speech that focuses on long-term economic challenges.

The national assembly will still resume sitting as scheduled on Tuesday after its winter break.

Governments often use prorogation to update their agenda and Charest says it's quite normal to outline his government's mid-term priorities at this stage of its mandate.

The Liberals were re-elected in December 2008 with a slim majority and can wait until December 2013 before going to the polls.
