DAVOS, Switzerland - Quebec Premier Jean Charest has decided to cut short his visit to World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

He will leave early Friday to attend the funeral of Audrey Best, the former wife of former premier Lucien Bouchard.

Best, who died Tuesday at age 50 after a three-year battle with breast cancer, will be buried in Montreal on Saturday.

The French-born, California-raised Best was surrounded by close relatives when she died after being in hospital for 17 days.

Best shunned the spotlight and stood by Bouchard during his stirring 1995 speeches in a near-successful campaign to win Quebec independence.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Charest said Best was a person of great generosity who has represented Quebec with distinction.
