The current chief of the East St. Paul police department gave more damning testimony Thursday about the man who used to have his job.

Chief Norm Carter told the Taman Inquiry former chief Harry Bakema ordered an officer at the scene of the crash that killed Crystal Taman to change his notes.

Bakema allegedly removed references to the fact that Derek Harvey-Zenk was drunk when he crashed into Taman's vehicle.

Carter also told the inquiry Zenk's mugshot was removed from police files.

Bakema served in the Winnipeg police service with Zenk before the crash happened.

Bakema was expected to take the stand Thursday as well, but that didn't happen. The inquiry doesn't sit Friday, so he should be on the stand Monday.

The inquiry is looking into how police and prosecutors handled the case of former Winnipeg police officer Derek Harvey-Zenk, who was involved in a car crash that killed Crystal Taman in February, 2005.

Charges of impaired driving causing death against Zenk were eventually dropped due to lack of evidence. Zenk was handed a conditional two-year sentence.
