A WestJet flights from Calgary to Phoenix was forced to return to Calgary shortly after takeoff when smoke was reported in the aircraft’s cabin.

Officials with the airline say that flight 1402, which departed just before 11:00 a.m local time., landed safely at approximately 12:15 p.m.

When the plane’s crew reported the appearance of smoke in the cabin and flight deck, pilots declared an emergency as a precaution and the aircraft was given priority to land in Calgary. Emergency crews were standing by in case they were needed.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the incident is still unknown. WestJet says that passengers will soon be placed on another plane to continue their trips.
