BURNABY, B.C. -- Vancouver police are investigating the shooting death of an armed murder suspect by the Mounties.

Twenty-six-year-old Angus Mitchell was suspected in a double murder and an attempted murder.

The Mounties caught up with him in Maple Ridge, about three hours after issuing a public warning about him.

Officers say Mitchell was shot in a confrontation with an emergency response team in a rural area.

The RCMP say he was a suspect in the deaths of a man and woman who'd been gunned down in a restaurant on Sunday, and in the shooting and wounding of his former landlord on Tuesday.

Police say Mitchell had been evicted from his home six months ago, around the time he came to legally posses a hunting rifle.
