SURREY, B.C. -- One week after a speeding van slammed into a small car in Surrey, killing all five people in the car, the driver of the van has now died.

Surrey RCMP say 46-year-old Daniel Gore died in hospital Sunday.

Cpl. Bert Paquet says Gore had undergone surgery to repair critical injuries suffered in the April 28 crash, but did not survive the procedure.

In all, six people have now died, including a young mother, her pre-school-aged son and daughter, as well as the children's grandmother and aunt.

The family was heading home to celebrate five-year-old Aneesh Sachdeva's birthday when their car was hit broadside by the van, demolishing the smaller vehicle.

Mounties say the investigation continues as they try to piece together what led up to the crash.
