A flying saucer appears to have touched down in Caledon, Ont.

Don’t blame aliens, though -- the UFO-like structure is actually the future home of certified-carbon-based-lifeform Sam Perri, a retired welder who has been building his unique house for more than a decade.

The house is northeast of Toronto, next to the Cheltenham Badlands, which already look like an alien landscape even without the pseudo-spacecraft parked next to it.

Perri says the building’s circular structure was originally inspired by the Pantheon in Rome.

“Initially I had this vision of enclosing a courtyard, and I improved on the concept by totally enclosing it and making it into a greenhouse,” Perri told CTV News Channel on Friday. “And anywhere that you stand in the house, you can look into it.”

Perri, who isn’t a professional architect or engineer, says he took about two years to get the final blueprints down on paper before he began making his vision a reality.

In the meantime, the curious structure has drawn plenty of tourists to his construction site.

“I’ve had many people who’ve stopped in the middle of the road to take photographs,” Perri says. He also lets people come in to take a look if they ask.

He says the house still needs some work – he has to finish the outside windows before he works on the interior – but he plans on moving in at some point this year.

And if you’re nowhere near the Toronto area, but want to do a virtual drive-by of the interstellar-style home, the home is visible on Google maps.
