After finding two infants alone inside a car in Oshawa, Ont., police are reminding people that it’s both dangerous and illegal to leave young children unattended in a vehicle.

Durham Regional Police were called to a mall parking lot late Wednesday morning after concerned citizens noticed a parked car left running with two infants in the backseat and no adult in sight.

Police were able to contact the vehicle’s owner by cellphone. She was arrested as she exited the mall.

The car’s heater was left running as temperatures dipped to -6 degrees Celsius outside.

A 35-year-old woman has been charged with failure to provide the necessaries of life. Her name is being withheld to protect the identity of the children.
