WINNIPEG - RCMP say suspicious packages sent to law court buildings in six Manitoba communities earlier this month were not a threat to the public.

Police say tests on the packages to detect dangerous chemicals came back negative.

The communities that received the packages included Winnipeg, Thompson, Brandon, Morden, Minnedosa and Churchill.

RCMP say the packages appear to have originated from China.

Police won't say what was inside the packages.

RCMP say similar packages have been sent to some other provinces.
