Following a lengthy trial, a teenage girl believed to be the ringleader in an Ottawa prostitution ring has been found guilty on numerous charges.

Justice Diane Lahaie delivered the verdict in an Ottawa courtroom on Wednesday morning.

The 17-year old faced 33 charges in a case that shocked the country.

She was found guilty of one count of procurement for the purpose of prostitution, human trafficking, making child pornography, sexual assault, child luring, uttering threats and unlawful confinement, among other charges.

The teen was accused of orchestrating a ring in which she lured girls to her bedroom where they were forced to strip. The teen held the victims against their will and forced some of them to engage in sex acts with older men.

In September, two other teen girls pleaded guilty for their alleged roles in the prostitution ring.

None of the accused can be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

During the trial, three girls, who were between 13 and 17 years old at the time, described how they were delivered to johns and forced to hand over earnings for performing sex acts.
