HALIFAX - Electricity has been restored to more than a thousand Nova Scotians in northern Cape Breton after a blizzard caused power outages across the province.

Nova Scotia Power reported that power in the Ingonish, Pleasant Bay, Meat Cove area had been out since Friday afternoon due to high winds and snow.

Several active power outages in the area were downgraded at about noon Saturday as crews worked to restore power to about 700 customers in Nova Scotia still without electricity.

A spokesperson for Nova Scotia Power said efforts to restore power to customers in Cape Breton were stalled due to road closures limiting access to the area and visibility concerns.

Caitlin Walker said about 60 powerline technicians have been working on power outages in the eastern part of the province Saturday.

About 400 customers in the Port Hood area were still without power as of noon.
