Hey Canada Post, really? I'm quite fond of home delivery. Thanks. #NoToCutsChelsea Faye
Did I hear that right? Canada Post is cutting home delivery in cities AND raising the price of stamps to $1?Gingerbread Renarde
Canada Post meet neo-liberalism. Brought to u by those geniuses in government. Cutting 8000 jobs. Sorry, phasing out 8000 jobs.Brent Niganobe
Guess what Canada Post? I hate youWinter Soldieress
Some of those angered by the decision wondered how seniors and people with disabilities will collect their mail from community boxes.
I think it's ridiculous especially with an aging population. My 94 year old grandmother will have to wait for someone to go get her mail now. Why not reduce delivery days to 2 or 3 times a week instead? Also, why not cut the budget starting at the top instead of making the people suffer? Lose some of the over paid management there first. that will save a bundle.Christine Balina
This will hurt a lot of seniors and those who are disabled as well as hurting all those letter Carriers by putting them out of work. I know that raising the cost of a stamp from $.63 to $1 will deter me from mailing anything now. I don't like the idea of going to a communal postal box on my street, but I can deal with that ok. I just worry for the seniors, this will cut them right off.Shainna Poulin
Many said they weren't surprised to see the beginning of the end of home delivery in the age of email, e-bills and smartphones. Among them were those who welcome community mail boxes.
No big deal. I haven't had home delivery in many years. Just around the corner. It is terrible people will be out of work but they are hemorrhaging money so you knew something was coming.Mike McPhee
In a world of paperless billing, internet in most people’s pockets, is Canada Post’s news really THAT surprising?Pat Trudeau
People should stop blaming the government for laying off 8000 people. Unfortunate yes but the postal service is becoming an antiquated form of information sharing. It would like blaming them for the eventual demise of single use digital cameras, the use of steam engine locomotives, newspaper publishing, full service gas stations, public pay phones, hard drives for computers... The point is you better adapt or become extinct.Aud Eimantas
People complaining about Canada Post cuts to urban delivery fail to see the positives namely increased contact with your community...michelleleeanna
its a good idea. I haven't had mail delivered to my house since I moved to this house. Takes 2 mins to walk to the mailbox. and we check it whenever we go out. I'm going to say the next thing they do is cut delivery days next. again....not a big deal. people hate change and they will raise a stink though.Andrea Till
I think its a great move. With the steady growing economy it makes more sence to have all the pods at the end of the streets. ITs safer for the mail man as well...they just have to go to the one pod and insert all the mail...Cheryl Cantin
A number of people said now is the time to shake things up -- either by privatizing mail delivery or making Canada Post more relevant in the digital age.
Instead of these unpopular and ill-thought out half measures it's time to privatize Canada Post like the Royal Mail.Brent Neill
Time to privatize Canada Post and let the private sector compete for all mail delivery services if they can't do the job.Derek Fildebrandt
Canada post should make the electronic leap and offer an email service that is more secure than others.the gleaner
Others, like film director and actress Sarah Polley, took a more lighthearted (or snarky) approach.
I had the funniest dream that Canada Post was going to stop delivering mail to people's houses! And you could smoke crack and be the mayor!Sarah E. Polley
So upset about Canada Post ending door-to-door delivery, I'm writing them a stern email.Ken Hegan
Thanks Canada Post...my childhood stamp collection just went up in value!Joe Zinner
