New footage is offering a glimpse from the ground of the destruction brought by the wildfires that have forced the evacuation of Fort McMurray, Alberta.

In video taken from inside neighbourhoods, obtained exclusively by CTV News, it’s clear that the blaze burned houses down to their foundations, leaving behind only a few concrete structures and piles of twisted metal.

In some shots, burned out vehicles sit directly across the street from homes that appear completely untouched.

Authorities have said that the neighbourhoods of Beacon Hill and Abasand, on the west side of Highway 63, sustained the most extensive damage.
