Residents in a Brampton neighbourhood near the courthouse where a police officer was shot are questioning how a man who has lived on their street for close to a decade may be involved in the incident.

On Friday, while investigators were at the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse in Brampton, other officers were about 20 kilometres away at a two-storey, grey house on Flower Trail.

Police said a search warrant had been executed at the house, but did not provide any further details.

On Sunday, a neighbour told CTV Toronto that a police officer stationed outside the house at the time had told him the home was being searched in connection with the courthouse shooting.

"(The police officer) said it’s involved somehow with the shooting at the Brampton court," Roop said.

Roop identified the Flower Trail home’s resident as "Sonny Bassi," and told CTV Toronto he hadn’t seen the man or his family in the past few days.

So far, investigators have released few details on the 46-year-old shooting suspect, saying his family has not consented to the release of his identity. He was killed by police gunfire on Friday.

Const. Mike Klarenbeek, who was shot while providing security at the courthouse that day, was rushed to Toronto’s Sunnybrook Hospital. Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit says the shooter walked into the courthouse at approximately 11 a.m. and opened fire, wounding the 30-year police veteran.

On Sunday, Const. Fiona Thivierge of the Peel Regional Police told The Canadian Press Klarenbeek is on the "road to recovery."

Police said Klarenbeek is no longer in intensive care and his condition continues to improve.

Back on Flower Trail, neighbours say Bassi was often seen playing with his daughter. He lived at home with his mother, and his ex-wife lived several houses down the street.

"All I see is him playing around with the kid, that’s all I see," Waqar Ahmed told CTV Toronto. "I never see him, like in an argument or any fights."

Ontario's Special Investigation Unit is probing how police handled the courthouse shooting. The actions of two officers in the incident are being reviewed, SIU spokesperson Jasbir Brar told The Canadian Press. More than a dozen officers have been assigned to the case.

The SIU investigates all police actions involving death or serious injury.
