The sister of a woman murdered in 2014 is pleading for the return of her only copy of a book manuscript she’s been writing for more than two years.

Delilah Saunders says the nearly-complete book about her relationship with Loretta Saunders was on her Macbook, which she believes was stolen from her Halifax apartment while she was sleeping in August.

“It's very devastating,” she said. “I re-lived a lot of memories that were very difficult to conjure up.”

Saunders said she doesn’t care about the computer and just wants her manuscript returned. She said she has a contract with a publisher and will re-write the book if needed.

“I'm quite depressed,” she added. “This is something that is priceless.”

Loretta Saunders, an Inuk woman from Labrador, was murdered in February 2014. The Saint Mary’s University student had been working on a thesis related to missing and murdered aboriginal women when she was killed.

Victoria Henneberry and Blake Leggette, who had been renting a room from Saunders in Halifax, pleaded guilty to her murder in April. Henneberry has since said she wants the conviction overturned.

Saunders said her book was about the two sisters’ relationship, “but it's also about the experience of losing her and going through the judicial process.”

Halifax Regional Police said they investigated the robbery reported on Aug. 31, but the case has been closed due to the fact that there are no suspects.
