Most of southern Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes are under a special weather statement as another winter storm approaches.

A low pressure system is intensifying as it nears the Great Lakes, according to a statement from Environment Canada published Tuesday morning.

The storm will pass through Ontario on Wednesday, and hit the Bay of Fundy on Thursday.

Most of southern Ontario falls under the statement, which is warning of snow and blowing snow on Wednesday. Environment Canada is predicting snowfall will range from 5 to 15 centimetres in some areas, and 15 to 25 centimetres in others.

Environment Canada is also warning of strong winds and poor visibility.

In Quebec, areas south of the Blanc-Sablon region are under the same weather statement.

Further east, the weather statement applies to all of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Most of Newfoundland and Labrador will also be affected.

More than 25 millimetres of rain is expected to fall over the Maritime provinces, though Environment Canada warns the precipitation could take the form of snow or freezing rain.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts, and be careful driving. Conditions could change quickly.
